Fair Housing

Our Fair Housing Commitment

Project Spokane is committed to the letter and the spirit of the Fair Housing Act. We conduct our business in accordance with all federal and Washington State fair housing laws. We do not — and will not — discriminate against any person because of a protected characteristic in the sale, rental, financing, or advertising of housing. Every listing, rental, and program on this site is available to all people on an equal-opportunity basis.

Who is protected

Federal law (Fair Housing Act) prohibits housing discrimination based on: race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), familial status (families with children), and disability.

Washington State law (RCW 49.60) protects all of the above and, in addition: creed, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, honorably discharged veteran or military status, use of a trained dog guide or service animal, citizenship or immigration status, and source of income — including Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, HUD-VASH vouchers, Social Security, SSI, veterans' benefits, child support, and other lawful subsidy or assistance programs.

Our commitments

  • Equal, consistent terms.

Availability, pricing, deposits, and screening criteria are applied the same way to everyone.

  • No discriminatory advertising.

Our listings and marketing never state or imply a preference, limitation, or discrimination based on a protected class.

  • Source of income welcome.

We do not reject applicants because their income comes from vouchers, benefits, or other lawful subsidy programs.

  • Reasonable accommodations & modifications.

We support applicants and tenants with disabilities — including service and assistance animals — and work to accommodate reasonable requests.

  • Third-party listings.

The rentals and homes shown on our Available Housing board are submitted by community members, property managers, and independent owners. Project Spokane provides the board as a free community resource and is not the advertiser, agent, or manager for these listings — we do not create the listings, set their terms, screen applicants, or select tenants. Each person or company who posts is solely responsible for their listing and for complying with fair housing laws. We remove any listing that expresses a discriminatory preference.
